Student Health Insurance
All on-ground students are required to carry comprehensive health insurance for the benefit of the university community. Read more about the requirements below.
Student Health Insurance Plan
We offer a policy through Relation Insurance Services. The premium for the 2022-2023 academic year is $4,740 and is charged to the student account in installments by term. Wellfleet is the insurance provider, and the network is Cigna. Dental, vision, and dependent coverage are not available under the plan.
On-ground students who do not opt out by the waiver deadline are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan and charged for coverage.
Students can contact the Office of the Bursar for coverage options if health insurance coverage is lost, including aging off a parent’s insurance plan.
Student Health Insurance Opt-Out Information
Students with alternate health insurance coverage who do not want to be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan may opt-out by submitting a waiver before the deadline. An annual waiver is required for students who wish to remain opted out.
The opt-out waiver portal is open for a set period determined by the program’s term dates (see waiver period and deadline dates below). Once the waiver portal is open, students will receive an email containing the link to the waiver portal.
After the waiver is submitted, coverage is verified and subsequently confirmed by email. Please remember that insufficient information may lead to an initial denial. Contact the Office of the Bursar for a secondary review if the waiver is initially denied. The waiver is valid for the academic year as long as continuous coverage is maintained. Random re-verification of waivers occurs throughout the year.
Please see the waiver FAQ for additional information.
You must meet the following to satisfy the opt-out waiver requirements:
- You must have coverage in Nevada
- Deductible of $3,000 or less
- Plan/lifetime maximum must be unlimited
- Active coverage for the entire school year
The following forms of insurance coverage are automatically approved for the opt-out waiver:
- Nevada Medicaid Insurance (Out-of-state Medicaid Insurance will need to apply for Nevada Medicaid)
- Military Insurance
- Employer-sponsored insurance via spouse, parent, domestic partner, or current employer
If coverage information changes, students should email a copy of their new insurance ID card to clientservices@relationinsurance.com to update their waiver.
Students with newly obtained Nevada Medicaid who do not have insurance ID cards should submit their waiver by the deadline. Follow the steps listed below:
- Navigate and log in to the waiver portal.
- Input ‘Nevada’ in the ‘insurance company name’ field.
- Input ‘pending’ in the fields where information is yet available.
- Upload a copy of your letter of eligibility.
Our office will contact you if additional information is needed.
