Touro's Physician Assistant Students Administer Nearly 300 COVID-19 Vaccines Outside Allegiant Stadium

Students from the Touro University Nevada School of Physician Assistant Studies helped Las Vegas Raiders fans attend the team’s home opener after providing nearly 300 vaccinations before the Raiders’ Monday Night Football showdown against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13.

“This experience has been very important for me, especially during my community health rotation,” said Andrew Trinh from the Class of 2021. “I really feel like I’m taking care of the Southern Nevada community. Being able to give vaccinations to those who don’t have them, and helping to slow the spread of the pandemic, is super important to me and I genuinely feel like I’m making a difference.”

Fans lined up outside tents inside the Allegiant Stadium parking lot to get their COVID-19 vaccine hours before the game started. Last month, the Raiders became the first team in the NFL to mandate vaccines for fans who want to attend games.

“I think it’s a very good sign for the Raider community to see all of these fans lined up outside the stadium to get their vaccine,” Trinh said. “It’s also a really good sign for the Las Vegas community to use sports as an avenue to get more people involved and encourage more vaccinations.

Fans who waited in line to get vaccinated were glad to see Touro’s students, the healthcare providers of the future, giving them the vaccines they needed to watch the game inside Allegiant Stadium.

“Having the students give us the vaccine was really cool,” said one fan. “It was great seeing the students out here getting to do their thing and putting a good use to their education.”
