Touro University Nevada Honors the Classes of 2020 and 2021 During Summer Commencement
Touro University Nevada celebrated Summer Commencement for the Classes of 2020 and 2021 from the College of Health and Human Services and College of Osteopathic Medicine during an in-person ceremony on June 21.
Held at the Thomas & Mack Center, more than 200 graduates participated in the commencement ceremony. Shelley Berkley, CEO & Senior Provost, commended the new graduates’ ability to complete their Touro journeys while navigating the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A little over a year ago, it would have been unfathomable for any of us to predict that we would all be quarantined due to a worldwide pandemic,” she said. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, our Touro students stepped up without hesitation to help meet the needs of our community.”
While the Commencement honored graduates from the Schools of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, and Education’s Classes of 2021, graduates from the Class of 2020 were invited to participate in the ceremony since COVID-19 prevented them from holding an in-person Commencement last year.
More than 50 graduates from the College of Health and Human Services and the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Class of 2020 were honored during the ceremony.
“Our journey in helping people begins with a calling. It is the foundation that we build upon. Our education provided us with the knowledge and skills on which we will build our profession, whether in a hospital or in the community,” said Red East Tumang, a Doctor of Nursing Practice graduate from the School of Nursing. “We chose our career based on our passion to care for others. We chose our career for the “art of caring” and earned this degree to catapult us into a successful career ensuring the wellbeing of our patients and students, as leaders, educators, and advocates.”
