Touro Nevada School of Physician Assistant Studies Has Partnered With Veterans Village 2 to Provide Healthcare Assistance to Underserved Community
Touro University Nevada (TUN) has partnered with non-profit Veterans Village 2 to provide free healthcare, via the university’s Physician Assistant Studies mobile healthcare clinic, for those veterans living in the community.
“The mobile healthcare clinic provides access to medical care that our veterans are not getting,” said Arnold Stalk, co-founder of Veterans Village Las Vegas. “This type of medical care solves a myriad of problems that our veterans have. It’s a wonderful program; creative, beautiful and innovative, that gets basic services to our veterans who desperately need them.”
Under the supervision of TUN faculty, students working on the Touro Mobile Healthcare Clinic have the opportunity to provide medical care to those living in the Las Vegas Valley’s most underserved communities. The clinic provides a variety of services to Southern Nevada’s homeless population, including physical examinations, wellness checks, wound care, and more.
“We are excited to form this tremendous partnership with Veterans Village 2 as we work together to solve the veteran homelessness problem within our community,” said Dr. Phil Tobin, Director of Touro’s Physician Assistant Program. “Our goal is to better prepare our students for their future as healthcare providers while offering quality care to those who need it most.”
In 2014, Touro established its first mobile healthcare clinic through the generous support of private donors. Currently, the university operates two mobile healthcare units that serve Opportunity Village, The Shade Tree, Veterans Village 2, Catholic Charities and other organizations.
