Touro Nevada Alumnus Receives Prestigious National Cancer Research Award
Dr. Daniel Thomas Jones, DO, MBA, MHS, two-time alumnus from Touro University Nevada, earning his Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2025, was recently selected to receive a 2026 Conquer Cancer Merit Award from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, for his oncology research.
His cancer research focuses on using very large national healthcare databases to identify potential signals and associations in cancer across datasets representing hundreds of millions of patient encounters. Advances in computing power now allow him to investigate patterns involving cancer outcomes, complications, disparities, and healthcare delivery at a scale that was previously difficult to achieve. These findings can generate clinically meaningful hypotheses that researchers can then explore more directly in subsequent studies.
This research is part of his long-term career goals of becoming a hematologist-oncologist, which is one of the areas of medicine experiencing some of the most rapid advancement today. He was drawn to a field where scientific discovery can translate so directly into patient care and where physicians can develop long-term relationships with patients while also participating in research and innovation.

Dr. Jones is a second-year Internal Medicine resident physician with the Sunrise Health GME Consortium at MountainView Hospital. He is also pursuing an MPH at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His career aspirations are to pursue Hematology-Oncology, with a particular interest in cancer drug development and early-phase therapeutics.
