The Touro University Nevada community, led by the Office of Admissions, participated in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Las Vegas on Jan. 16.

Students, faculty, and staff braved the wind and rain to help promote the university at the annual parade, attended by organizations, businesses, and local political leaders across the Las Vegas Valley.

The Touro community was flanked by one of the university’s mobile health care clinics and a few “pull along” Touro mobile health care clinic wagons with stuffed puppies inside. The event, an annual tradition that Touro has proudly participated in for years, was another opportunity for the university to highlight the impact it is making across the Las Vegas Valley and beyond.

“Participating in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade is a great way to show the community that our students, faculty, and staff are dedicated to Touro’s mission,” said Tava McGinty-Jimenez, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Admissions. “I am so happy that Touro was there through hail, rain, and wind. We were there until the end. Without our faculty, staff, students, family and friends who made lasting memories during the parade, it would not have been possible.”

Julienne Zhou, a student in the Master’s of Science in Medical Health Sciences Program, said Martin Luther King Jr.’s impact inspired her to participate in this year’s parade.

“The courage Martin Luther King Jr. had fighting for justice and equal rights is inspirational. He was faced with the choice to stay silent and compliant versus speak up and advocate for civil rights. Using the power of words and nonviolence, he consistently chose unconditional love and truth to fight for change,” she said. “I felt immensely grateful walking to honor his strength and memory with other Touro students, staff, faculty, family members, and the local community through sun, rain, and hail at this year's Annual Las Vegas Martin Luther King Jr. Parade.”
