The Classes of 2022 from the College of Osteopathic Medicine celebrated Spring Commencement in early May, taking the next steps as the next generation of physicians and healthcare providers.

More than 170 students graduated with their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, while more than 50 graduated with their Master’s of Science in Medical Health Sciences.

The College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Class of 2022 achieved a 99.4% residency placement during Match Week. Of those students, 55 of them, 32 percent of the graduating class, will stay in Nevada for residency.

“I am so proud of the Classes of 2022 for all that they have accomplished during their time here at Touro,” said Shelley Berkley, CEO & Senior Provost. “Completing their rigorous curriculum in the middle of this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic is a testament to their dedication to making our world a better place.”

Jenny Duong served as student speaker for the MHS Program and Cassandra McDiarmid spoke about her experiences in the DO program. The theme for both speeches focused on resilience, as both classes completed their journeys during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As you walk across this stage today, I hope you will think of the people who believed in you; those who helped you get here today: your mentors, your parents, and your significant others,” said Duong, who will stay at Touro Nevada as a student in the School of Physician Assistant Studies. “We did not walk alone on this journey, and we won’t walk alone on these steps we take across the stage today.”

“I implore you to take with you the spirit of Touro - one of compassion, caring, and family, and let this light shine in every interaction you have to make a difference,” McDiarmid said during her speech. “In the words of Dr. Anthony Fauci, ‘A life well lived is to have made contribution to society, leaving what you’ve touched better off than before you had anything to do with it.’”

The College of Health and Human Services will hold Spring Commencement for its graduates at The Dollar Loan Center on June 20.
