Touro University Nevada Holds Virtual Gala to Raise Money for Students
With the COVID-19 pandemic halting large in-person events across the country, Touro University Nevada was able to virtually host its annual Gala to help raise money for students.
The virtual Gala included the familiarity and fanfare that Touro supporters have grown accustomed to experiencing throughout the years, including CEO & Senior Provost Shelley Berkley serving as the evening’s host.
The hour-long presentation began with a keynote address from former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, who touted the importance of graduate medical education (GME) and keeping Nevada’s medical students in the state. As Governor, Sandoval pushed for continued GME support and worked with the state legislature to secure millions of dollars for GME. He thanked Touro for its commitment to helping keep Southern Nevada safe, especially with the university’s involvement during COVID-19.
Following Sandoval’s keynote address was the awards portion of the event. MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment were presented with the Touro Award of Distinction, and Susan Greenspun Fine was presented with the Touro Service Award.
“I want to thank MGM, Caesars, and Susan Greenspun Fine for their continuous support of Touro University Nevada,” Berkley said. “Every university needs tremendous partnerships to thrive, and Touro is no exception. Even during these tumultuous times, MGM, Caesars, Susan Greenspun Fine, and so many others, have continued to believe in us as we educate future healthcare professionals and educators.”
Following the awards portion of the evening was the live auction, hosted by Berkley and Christian Kolberg. Gala attendees bid on several items, including jewelry, artwork, a dinner package for 10, autographed memorabilia from the Las Vegas Aviators, Vegas Golden Knights, and more. All funds raised from the evening directly benefit Touro’s students.
“Our donors care so deeply about the success of this institution, which is why they still attended this year’s virtual Gala,” Berkley said. “Their generosity will directly impact the education our students receive here at Touro, and the community will feel the effects of their support.”
