Touro Community Comes Together to Celebrate Hanukkah During the University’s Annual Party
The Touro Nevada family came together to celebrate Hanukkah during the university’s annual party, held outside of the Michael Tang Regional Center for Clinical Simulation.
Attended by hundreds of students, staff, and faculty, the Hanukkah party featured delicious food, free giveaways, and a lively discussion by Rabbi Zecharia Rubin, who told the story of Hanukkah and the importance of Jewish traditions.
“The story of Hanukkah is a story of triumph, adversity, and miracle,” said Shelley Berkley, CEO & Senior Provost of Touro University Nevada. “It is also a reminder of the strength the Jewish people have always possessed. As we celebrate the holiday season together, let us remember the lessons we can all take from the story of Hanukkah.”
Those who attended the Hanukkah party were given a free Touro United t-shirt and dreidels. For lunch, brisket, chicken wings, latkes, and jelly donuts were served.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the university’s Hanukkah party to be held virtually, the 2021 Hanukkah party was extremely well-attended by the campus community.
“Having everyone together for this year’s Hanukkah party speaks to the closeness of the Touro Nevada community,” said Dr. Philip Tompkins, Dean of Students. “The annual Hanukkah party remains one of the most popular events for the campus community, and I am thrilled that we were able to come together safely to commemorate the Festival of Lights.”
