Touro University Nevada’s ‘End Hunger Games’ Provides More Than 9,000 Meals for Three Square Food Bank
In the spirit of giving during the holiday season, the Touro University Nevada community helped provide thousands of meals for Three Square Food Bank during the ‘End Hunger Games’ food drive.
While the ‘End Hunger Games,’ campus food drive typically asks for students and faculty to donate canned goods, the coronavirus pandemic transitioned this year’s food drive to strictly monetary donations.
In the end, the Touro University Nevada community came together to raise money that will provide nearly 4,600 meals for Three Square Food Bank. Three Square decided to match Touro’s donation, meaning the university helped contribute 9,120 meals to hungry families in the Las Vegas Valley.
“While the holiday season is a time to be grateful for our friends and family, it is also a time to remember that so many people are still struggling,” said Shelley Berkley, CEO and Senior Provost of Touro University Western Division. “I am so incredibly proud of the Touro campus community for helping to provide much-needed assistance to those in need. The ‘End Hunger Games’ food drive will make life easier for so many people, and I applaud our students, faculty, and staff for giving back to our community.”
The End Hunger Games was broken down into participation between two districts: the Northern Region (the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Health and Human Services Program) and the Southern Region (six Houses within the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences).
The School of Physical Therapy’s 1,605 meals were the most in the Northern Regions, while the Chaudhry House raised 1,105 meals, the most in the Southern Region. Each student from the winning regions was awarded a gift for their generosity, though several students donated their gift cards back to Three Square in order to provide more meals for those in need.
