Nursing Student Lia Harris Honored with Scholarship From the Nevada Nursing Foundation
Lia Harris, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) student at Touro University Nevada, was presented with a scholarship from the Nevada Nursing Foundation during the organization’s ‘Shining Stars of Nursing in Nevada Annual Awards’ virtual gala.
“I am truly honored and grateful to receive the Nevada Nurses Foundation MSN scholarship,” Harris said. “This scholarship means that my efforts to help in my community by being a mentor for other nurses, finding ways to hone my leadership skills, and by being an advocate for patients was recognized. It also means that my voice was heard about the need for healthcare improvement in the state of Nevada.”
Harris, who works as a registered nurse in the Las Vegas Valley, contracted COVID-19 shortly after the pandemic began. Even while battling the virus, Harris pushed through to complete her studies. After fully recovering three weeks later, she went back to work to provide care for patients on the frontlines.
“Congratulations to Lia and all of the scholarship winners from the ‘Shining Stars of Nursing in Nevada Annual Awards’ gala,” said Dr. Theresa Tarrant, Director of the Touro University Nevada School of Nursing. “Their dedication to advancing their education at this most challenging time proves their commitment to an important nursing value: that of lifelong learning.”
