Touro University Nevada Welcomes its Newest Group of Students
Touro University Nevada recently welcomed its newest group of students to the College of Health and Human Services and the Master’s of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MHS) Program.
After the COVID-19 pandemic required the university to move its operations remotely, the Office of Admissions worked tirelessly to ensure the incoming students had everything they needed before they began their Touro journeys in a strictly online environment.
The culmination to this remote process was “Virtual Acceptance Day,” where nearly 250 new students and their guests attended an all-day, online, informational event that welcomed them to the Touro University Nevada family. Students heard from their new Deans, faculty members, current students, and each department within the Division of Student Affairs.
“For our new students, seeing their new classmates’ faces was so important,” said Tava McGinty-Jimenez, Director of the Office of Admissions and Associate Dean of Students. “Even though they weren’t physically with each other, Virtual Acceptance Day allowed them to build new relationships that will greatly benefit them in the future.”
Hannah Guinn, a second-generation Las Vegan and a new student in the School of Physician Assistant Studies, said she wanted to come to Touro so she could make a difference in her own community.
“Touro felt like a tight-knit group of caring individuals who genuinely want you to succeed. The family feel of the program really drew me to the school,” she said. “The fact that I get to make a difference in Nevada, not just after I graduate but while I’m getting my education, really made Touro my top choice.”
Ryan Sanchez, a Southern California native and a first-year student in the School of Physical Therapy, said he wanted to come to Touro University Nevada after working with a physical therapist at his former clinic who graduated from the university.
“He inspired me to apply here,” Sanchez said. “Touro took a chance on me as a DPT student, and I’m very grateful for that. I’m very much looking forward to learning more and getting to know my classmates.”
The university will welcome the College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2024 for new-student orientation from July 28-Aug. 3.
