Touro University Nevada Basketball Team Goes Head-To-Head With NBA Dads to Raise Money for Autism Center
The Touro University Nevada campus was treated to a fun afternoon of both celebrity and basketball when the fathers of NBA players participated in a three-point contest against the TUN basketball team to raise money for the Sharon Sigesmund-Pierce and Stephen Pierce Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities.
The Fathers and Men of Professional Basketball Players (FAMPBP), an organization that provides assistance to help build communities across the country, took to the Touro gym in a friendly competition as students, faculty, and staff watched in excitement.
“We were so glad that we were able to come out here and support Touro University Nevada,” said Johnnie Williams, the father of former NBA player and first-round pick Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams.
The fathers of NBA greats like Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Aaron Gordon, Chauncy Billups and more put their skills on display and went head-to-head with the TUN Matadors.
After the friendly competition concluded, FAMPBP members thanked the team and the crowd for participating before presenting CEO & Senior Provost Shelley Berkley with a $5,000 check for the Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities.
“The most important question you have to ask yourself is: What are you doing for others?” said Charles Paul, the father of Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul. “These fathers up here are committed to making a difference, even before their sons started playing basketball. This will always be about the causes we love.”
