Community Leaders and Local Families Come Together to Celebrate Ribbon-Cutting Of Expanded Touro Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities
Touro University Nevada, joined by community leaders, local families and children, will celebrate the expansion of its Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities with a ceremony and ribbon-cutting on Wednesday morning. The ceremony will also unveil and recognize the Center naming thanks to a generous donor gift.
To better accommodate the growing need in Southern Nevada for Autism diagnosis and treatment, the expansion gives way to a now 5,524 square foot facility which includes additional space for offices and allows for the original Center space to be dedicated to diagnosis, treatment, and research. Previously home to four treatment rooms, the expansion doubled the treatment space creating eight rooms. A new diagnosis wing with insulation for privacy was added in addition to two suites for neuropsychological evaluations. The facility growth also provides space for a future full-time researcher and allows Touro to hire additional clinicians.
For children being seen at the Center the most memorable change will be a new feature called “The Park.” Serving as the heart of the facility, The Park was designed to provide greater mobility for patients during their treatments. Six of the eight treatment rooms open up to The Park which allows patients to move easily from one-on-one treatments into group activities. Added features in The Park for noise reduction help with concentration during treatment and evaluations.
Parental interaction in the renewed space will be even greater with two private consultation rooms, upgraded closed caption monitoring system and iPad technology for viewing treatments without disturbing the progress.
