Student Health Insurance

2024/2025 Student Health Insurance Information Coming May 1, 2024

Touro offers a policy through Academic HealthPlans, Inc. The premium for the 2023-2024 academic year is $4,140. Wellfleet is the insurance provider, and the network is Cigna. Dental, vision, and dependent coverage are not available under the plan. On-ground students who do not waive out of the plan are automatically enrolled and charged for coverage.

Students should contact the Office of the Bursar to be added to the school plan if they age out of their parent’s insurance plan or lose coverage.

Student Health Insurance Opt-Out Information

Students with their own insurance coverage may submit a waiver to opt out of the school plan. The waiver requirements are listed below. An annual waiver is required for students to remain opted out.

Disclaimer:  The Office of the Bursar does not have information regarding Nevada Medicaid. Contact the Nevada Department of Human Health and Human Services Division of Welfare and Supportive Services for questions about Nevada Medicaid.

Opt-Out Waiver Details

The opt-out waiver period is specific and pre-determined by the program’s term dates. See waiver portal dates and deadlines below.

On the first day of the opt-out waiver period, students will receive an email from Care26 instructing them to set their password. Once the password setup is complete, the student can log into Care26 and access and submit their waiver. Students will need to upload a copy of their insurance ID card. When the waiver is submitted, coverage is verified and subsequently confirmed by email.

Please remember that insufficient information may lead to an initial denial. Contact the Office of the Bursar for a secondary review if the waiver is initially denied. The waiver is valid for the academic year as long as continuous coverage is maintained. Waivers are subject to randomized re-verification throughout the year.

You must meet the following to satisfy the opt-out waiver requirements:

  • You must have coverage in Nevada
  • Deductible of $3,000 or less
  • Plan/lifetime maximum must be unlimited
  • Active coverage for the entire school year

The following forms of insurance coverage are automatically approved for the opt-out waiver:

  • Nevada Medicaid Insurance (Out-of-state Medicaid Insurance will need to apply for Nevada Medicaid)
  • Military Insurance
  • Employer-sponsored insurance via spouse, parent, domestic partner, or current employer

If coverage information changes, students should email a copy of their new insurance ID card to educlientservices@ahpcare.com to update their waiver.

Students with newly obtained Nevada Medicaid who do not have insurance ID cards should submit their waiver by the deadline. Follow the steps listed below:

  1. Navigate and log in to the waiver portal.
  2. Input ‘Nevada’ in the ‘insurance company name’ field.
  3. Input ‘pending’ in the fields where information is yet available.
  4. Upload a copy of your letter of eligibility.

Our office will contact you if additional information is needed.
