The new scholarship will help students who are interested in oncology
Nov 14, 2014

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN), a long-standing community partner of Touro University Nevada, has established a scholarship for students pursuing a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree who are interested in the field of oncology.

Through the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada Scholarship, Touro University Nevada can provide the additional financial support that attracts exceptional and diverse students to the institution. The newly announced scholarship provides much needed financial assistance to deserving students and will recognize excellence in academic performance and research.

“I’m thrilled that Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada is supporting our students with this much-needed scholarship funding,” said Shelley Berkley, CEO and Senior Provost of Touro University Nevada. “These scholarships will make an absolutely important difference in our students being able to pursue their academic goals and it is a wonderful demonstration of CCCN’s commitment to our community’s future healthcare providers.”

This new financial commitment to Touro University Nevada students adds to numerous years of prior educational commitment from CCCN with the university. In addition to adjunct professorships, the organization also provides mentorship of currently enrolled students to aide in their professional growth. CCCN prides itself on its highly talented physicians who are all committed to education, research and the future of healthcare in the Las Vegas.

“Touro University Nevada has been a long-standing partner of ours in the medical community and we are excited to support their admirable efforts with this scholarship,” said James Kilber, MBA, Executive Director of Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. “When it comes to investing in our community, we can think of no better place to start than with the emerging, dedicated minds that will shape the next chapter of medical care in our community.

The Touro Scholarship Fund is a campus-wide program designed to provide students with the financial assistance needed to meet their educational expenses. The fund administers merit-and need-based academic scholarships as well as scholarships intended for students in particular programs or areas of study. Scholarships also benefit students in disadvantaged situations, such as financial hardship and those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to pursue their degrees. As the cost of educational programs continues to climb, the availability of financial aid is often the determining factor in whether a student can pursue a degree.

Established in 2004, Touro University Nevada, Southern Nevada’s largest medical school, has been deeply invested in improving healthcare in the state by graduating more than 135 future doctors each year. Added scholarship funding to recognize talent in this realm will increase the potential for learning and research, resulting in further benefit to the community.
