Nevada is home to 2,890,845 residents, with 14.6% of the population 65 years or over (United States 2015 Census). A study done by the American Geriatrics Society in 2014 indicated that the state had only 42 certified geriatrics physicians to care for 126,516 medically complex older patients. Based on the ideal workload of a full-time geriatrician, the Society estimated a need for 139 more geriatricians in Nevada to care for this sector.
Due to its dry, warm, and stable climate, no state tax, very affordable housing and 360 sunny days per year, Nevada is a hot-spot for seniors from all over the States and abroad. Local job opportunities as a geriatrician are available after the completion of your training.
Southern Nevada has not previously had a fellowship program available for internists or family medicine physicians interested in pursuing additional training and certification in Geriatric Medicine.
Touro University Nevada’s one year clinical fellowship is a comprehensive program aimed at training fellows to achieve full competency in all facets of Geriatric Medicine, leading to Board Certification and independent clinical practice. Your future expertise will help alleviate the deficit of certified geriatricians in the United States.
This program is open to physicians trained in AOA-approved Family Medicine and Internal Medicine programs. You can be a graduating resident or a physician that is interested in expanding knowledge of geriatrics to better treat your patient base.
You will train in diverse retirement communities and in the largest medical school in Southern Nevada. We offer a very attractive salary & benefits package, access to TUN’s extensive library, and fantastic opportunities for year-long outdoor activities.
