What is the difference between graduation and commencement?
Graduation is the process of being awarded a degree. The commencement ceremony is celebratory event at which the students, university, family, and the community recognize the attainment of the degree. Participation in the commencement ceremony does not guarantee the student has met all of the necessary requirements to graduate. A student can graduate and not participate in commencement; although some programs make participation in commencement a requirement for graduation.
How long is the commencement ceremony?
The length of the commencement ceremony is approximately two hours. Depending on the number of graduates, the ceremony could increase or decrease in time.
Do I need a ticket for the commencement ceremony?
No, there are no tickets required to gain access to the ceremony. Each degree candidates will receive announcements to distribute to family and friends. The announcement is not required to gain entry to the ceremony. Seating for the ceremony will be on a first-come first-served basis. Doors will open one hour prior to the start of the event for open seating.
When should hotel reservations be made?
Due to the popularity of the Las Vegas area, hotel reservations should be made as early as possible.
How will my name be read while crossing the stage and how will my name appear on my diploma?
Graduate names will be announced and printed based on the name on file with the Office of the Registrar. A change of name requires a change of name form to be completed accompanied with the appropriate documentation. Please review your information on TUNfo to see how your name appears in the official Student Information System. This is how it will appear on your transcript and your diploma.
Where do I get my cap and gown?
After you order your cap and gown from Oak Hall, you will need to pay a small delivery fee. Oak Hall will ship your regalia to the address you tell them. Rush orders are available up to 5 days before the ceremony for an additional fee. Contact Oak Hall at 1-800-456-7623 for additional information.
Do I get to keep my cap, gown and hood?
Yes! Touro University Nevada is pleased to be able to provide you with regalia that you can keep.
Why do I have to report two hours before the start of the ceremony?
Graduates are asked to arrive early to ensure adequate time to prepare for the ceremony. It is during this time graduates will receive instructions for their role during the ceremony. This time is also needed for photographs related to the event. The ceremony will run smoothly if ALL graduates arrive on time.
How do I obtain additional copies of my transcript?
Official transcripts can be ordered through the TouroOne portal. Click on the “Academics” tab and press “Order Official Transcripts”. Your conferral date will be posted on your transcript within one week of your conferral date.
When will I get my diploma?
Diplomas will be mailed out within 2 weeks of your conferral date.
How can I obtain an additional copy of my diploma?
Additional copies of the diploma may be purchased through the registrar. The cost of additional diplomas will be charged to the student.
