Doris Lofton, CABI, was born in San Bernardino, California. Doris moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989 and began a journey working with children with special needs as a preschool teacher at First Christian Child Development Center that developed into a career. She was open to including children who had special needs in her mainstream classroom. Doris enjoyed working with children and families, so she opted to accept a position as a Program Assistant with Early Childhood Mental Health for the State of Nevada/DCFS. In this position, Doris was responsible for setting up respite for families, case management, parent training; advocated for families with WIC, Social Security, Child Find, and Welfare appointments; and served as an alternate teacher for the Day Treatment Program. Doris continued her higher education by taking classes in Early Childhood Education and Social Work.
Doris retired early from the State of Nevada to pursue other endeavors; like starting a wedding consultant business and becoming a licensed realtor. It was during this period that she received a call from Nevada Early Intervention Services with a job offer. The position was an Instructional Aide for families whose children were diagnosed with Autism and behavioral disorders. It was a call to duty that she could not ignore. Doris enjoyed working with this population and subsequently went on to accept a position as an ABA interventionist at Southwest Autism & Behavioral Solutions. In this position, Doris was the lead Interventionist implementing one-on-one home-based ABA therapy. It was during her tenure at Southwest Autism & Behavioral Solutions that Doris completed her Board Certified Autism Behavior Interventionist License.
