Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUNCOM) prepares students to become outstanding osteopathic physicians, physician assistants and scientists. The college provides students with the most current biomedical information and supporting biomedical research.
Each student uses the knowledge from his or her discipline to make evidence–informed decisions in the context of the complex situations encountered in the professional world. Faculty emphasizes primary care and a holistic approach to the patient. The college serves its students and society through
innovative education, research and community service.
Philosophy
The philosophy of TUNCOM is based on sound osteopathic principles of the interaction of structure and function, and the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. As a result, the curriculum is designed to introduce these concepts early in the first year, and to augment them throughout the four year program.
Through rigorous basic science study and clinical didactics, students develop the knowledge and skills required to excel in the practice of osteopathic medicine.
Understanding the challenge of this course of study, TUNCOM has developed a mechanism to support, guide, counsel and assist students who may require such services. It is the intent of the administration at TUNCOM to enable each and every matriculated student to achieve their highest academic and clinical potential, and to graduate with superior qualifications to enter postdoctoral residency training.
The support services are designed to identify individual student academic needs, and to address them early on to maximize their effectiveness. The college operates with an “open door” policy, in which all faculty and administration are available to all students for help or to address concerns.
