Research

TUN is committed to promoting the health of individuals and the populations in the Southern Nevada region not only by training health care professionals, but also through high quality research.

Led by Dr. Mahboob Qureshi, director of research, the faculty at Touro University Nevada (TUN) is encouraged to participate in research projects that advance the medical, health and human sciences.

Clinical research activities are being developed within the university and in close collaboration with other institutes. TUN has already been involved in such endeavors and has accommodated a clinical research institute, the Medical Education and Research Institute of Nevada (MERIN). This institute provides a venue for surgeons from all over the world to learn innovative surgical procedures and at the same time serves as a foundation for clinical research at TUN.

Faculty has developed collaborative research activities with established local and out of state research institutions with state-of-the-art facilities. TUN has a shared laboratory for basic science and clinical research activities. The lab has state of art facilities for primary tissue and cell culture studies and has the ability to support other biological and biochemical studies.

The osteopathic medicine, physician assistant, nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy programs at TUN participate in developing university-wide research on health care delivery and the development of technology. The university also promotes interdisciplinary studies in bioethics and the society, culture, and health of populations through community-based research activities.

TUN offers intramural research grants on a competitive basis and also supports and assists in research design through consulting with TUN faculty members. TUN also attempts to keep students and faculty members appraised of external grant opportunities as they become available.
