In the short eight years since Touro University Nevada was founded, the university has changed dramatically – growing from an initial class of 78 medical students to the more than 1,500 students today. As we look to the future of Touro and the place the university will hold in our dynamic urban community, the need for a comprehensive strategic planning exercise is vitally important.
The university has engaged in planning in the past that has provided direction for our institution. As we prepare to celebrate our 10th Anniversary in the next two years, it is time to consider our identity, the unique nature of our institution and how we position ourselves as a resource for the State of Nevada.
During Spring 2012, several planning efforts occurred with TUN Faculty, Staff and Students providing input to the process. This collaborative and transparent process resulted in the 2012 – 2015 TUN’s plan and was implemented July 1, 2012. This marks an important time in our short history, and we thank everyone for their contributions to the process.
Strategic Plan 2012 – 2015 Development Process
To create the 2012 – 2015 TUN Strategic Plan, input was solicited from TUN Faculty, Staff and Students. Five open campus forums were held and comment boxes and a unique TUN Strategic Planning email were made available to allow many avenues for input. A community breakfast was held in April 2012 to obtain feedback from a variety of community partners. All feedback along with other environmental scan data was reviewed and considered by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee in designing the new Strategic Plan. Ultimately the new plan was proposed to TUN’s Executive Council and Senior Provost and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Michael Harter, approved and implemented July 1, 2012.
TUN Strategic Plan Implemention
To facilitate implementation a Deployment Plan was created, aligning specific strategies with individuals charged with oversight and a target timeline. Implementation oversight and general guidance of Strategic Plan implementation is done by the Strategic Planning Council. The Council is comprised of a cross functional team of TUN Faculty and Staff appointed to serve in staggered three year terms. Council meets quarterly and is facilitated by Diane E. Waryas PhD, Director of Institutional Research and Strategic Planning.
